Closings

The past week has brought an onslaught of Broadway closings and closing announcements for shows that aimed for more than the usual entertainment:

A Life in the Theatre--closed November 28
Elling--closed November 28

Scottsboro Boys--closing announced for December 12
Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson--closing announced for January 2

Meanwhile, despite what you'd think was pretty bad publicity this week, Spider-Man just sold over a million bucks in advance sales!

  1. Guess the old adage is true: There's no such thing as bad publicity.

It also didn't hurt that as the not-ready-for-prime-time preview was playing out, the show got a boost from "60 Minutes." When's the last time that venerable television magazine featured a Broadway show?

  3. It also got a glowing writeup of Taymor in AMERICAN THEATRE, which reminds regional theatre chappies of her street cred. Also remember that this is most likely the first toyetic Broadway musical -- more potential for subsidiary income. And, of course, don't forget the comic books....
