Although I do not agree on all of your points (you can view my review of MNiRC on my blog, if you wish, from October 16, 2006 to see those areas where we differ) I do agree on many and I really appreciate that you wrote this very insightful and thorough accout of your experience. Cheers!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12657288.post-1161592365902299682006-10-23T04:32:00.000-04:002006-10-23T04:32:00.000-04:00Rachel Corrie was a terrorist-supporting pig! My spatially circumscribed, 287-word review was, I hope, not too lame (per blogless Joe's remark) but my hat's off to the thoroughness and shrewdness of your points about the production's severe limitations. You gave Dodds more credit (I was very dismissive of her) but I totallly agree with you about the Brechtian/Aristotlean divide in this piece. If Viner & Rickman wanted to do more than a love letter to a dead activist, her death should have been incidental to the larger story of political engagement. I doubt that Rachel was as sweet and cute as Dodds plays her. I'd rather see a Rachel and an overall production that dared to be strident, loud, disruptive, scary and yes, inspiring.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12657288.post-1161381310157571072006-10-20T17:55:00.000-04:002006-10-20T17:55:00.000-04:00PG,What a fascinating review. You've been watching this from afar as the reality of the play became closer and closer, and now you've finally been able to attend it and do what you enjoy so much and do so well - review the thing.<BR/><BR/>Having watched the last night of the play in the 2nd Royal Court run last fall, your review brought me back into some of my thoughts at the time, especially your pont about the dramatic arc created over the course of the 90 minutes justifying both the Valley Girlesque beginning and the Aristotelian 2nd "Act."<BR/><BR/>You've done great service for American theater in your coverage of this since February. Thanks!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12657288.post-1161376039919757032006-10-20T16:27:00.000-04:002006-10-20T16:27:00.000-04:00Excellent review, Playgoer! Thank you. And I remember thinking that I was so glad that I had destroyed the writings of my youth, so that no one could do this to me. It's as though people turn 50 and start developing a kitsch shelf on the brain.PeonInChiefhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17611581585285022906noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12657288.post-1161372896039454152006-10-20T15:34:00.000-04:002006-10-20T15:34:00.000-04:00Thank you for sharing this detailed and insightful...Thank you for sharing this detailed and insightful review.
