And don't even get me started on the Off and Off Off houses (unpadded, folding chairs have a 1/2 hour limit - period!).

It's hard to enjoy a show if every 5 minutes I'm worrying about whether the person next to me is scared that my elbow is leaning on theirs. I watch the guy on the other side of me exhale only to see the hair on the woman in front of him flutter upward - that can't be fun for her.

Coats in our laps, holding a cocktail in one hand and program in another, trying to feel on the floor for the flying "tonight's understudy" slips of paper. I was angry before the lights went down.

And intermission offered no relief as my girlfriend couldn't go to the bathroom cuz the line was so long, and that after the whole row's teamwork just to get us into the aisle. I can't be the only person who's uncomfortable bothering strangers like that.

Look, I love antiques as much as the next person, but sitting in one can be a chore. I know I'm pushing my 170lb limit, but I just don't think folks are as small as they were when some of these houses were built.

Imagine going to a movie and not sitting in one of those cushey chairs (cup-holder optional). And we wonder why folks hate going to the theater. I could enjoy a bad play, if I could just cross my legs from time to time.

I worry that too often we give audiences the impression that they are not as important as our plays are... and that can't be good. Somethings shouldn't be torn down, but building new theaters isn't always the devil's work, is it?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12657288.post-37568554112940681312008-03-11T12:09:00.000-04:002008-03-11T12:09:00.000-04:00Thanks for connecting some of the dots between the...Thanks for connecting some of the dots between the article, Daisey and Machado.

A very interesting place we've come to, indeed.Malachy Walshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17729185865764121986noreply@blogger.com
