A real joy and for me a show not to be missed the next time it comes to Sydney!Roger Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06041053391667898286noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12657288.post-18613916440508058542008-11-14T13:14:00.000-05:002008-11-14T13:14:00.000-05:00I admit, I saw the show at Union Sq. I don't even know if quality is the question, but I think it points to how globalization has created a thurst on Bway for something that non-english speaking tourists can blow their vacation cash on. Lacking a next generation of Bill Irwins, then a guess Slava gets his moment in the Bway spotlight.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12657288.post-71886650867969564612008-11-13T21:20:00.000-05:002008-11-13T21:20:00.000-05:00I've seen the show twice, actually--once in London...I've seen the show twice, actually--once in London in 2004, I think it was, and once in NYC right after it opened.

The London show I thought was a pretty magical experience. It was clowning of a very high level--funny and touching and universal, and surprising, too. The kind of thing that Beckett would approve of, no joke.

The NYC production wasn't as good--it was the same show, basically, but not the original Slava, and the timing and the tone were a bit off. I wasn't especially impressed. That said, it wasn't bad, and it wasn't cynical like a lot of holiday entertainment is.

Don't know if that's still true, but if they do the show as well as it can be done, it's beautiful. That may not apply to the ads and the website...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
