Welcome to the Theatre Bitchosphere?

Kudos to Mac Rogers--resident theatre blogger for NY Mag--for re-christening us all...

Sadly I can't claim that one; I don't write the headlines.

I've used you twice now, Eisler! Now I can't use you for like six weeks or something... unless you get the scoop that stops the world!

I gotta ask, Mac... is this the same editor who made up stuff Nick from Rat Sass never said? If so, I think someone needs to speak to him about ethics and standards. Theater blogging is very different from the encouraged-bitching of All That Cat and to lump us all in together and call us the Bitchosphere is insulting. Even if Garrett isn't insulted. Playgoer is not a very bitchy blog. I work hard to make sure mine isn't either. It may be axe-grindy at times, but I work hard to avoid snark.

So, we're down to comments by bloggers in response to Playgoer's blog post about another blogger's post in which the blogger quoted Playgoer and other bloggers and All That Chat posters?

Still looking for the nugget of actual CONTENT here...

Well, I'm not writing the "Drama!" column anymore, so it's a moot point now.

I'm the editor in question, and I wrote the headline in question. I've since changed the headline, since it seemed to offend people unnecessarily (and, in re-reading, seemed fairly clumsy to me anyways). As for parabasis's comment, I'd argue there's quite a difference between an editorial miscommunication and a breach of ethics, but then even I would get bored.

Dan,
Point taken. Not knowing the whole backstory (Which, obv. I don't know) I probably was letting the fact that I was insulted make me fly off the handle a bit.

Mac... you're not writing it anymore?

Man, I just thought it was a funny word and was a good laugh on a slow Friday afternoon. No idea so much "drama" would unfold.

Yeah, Mac whattup? At least update us on your blog if not here...

Don't know Mac, but on principle I'm sorry if he's losing a gig -- but I gotta say: commenting on blogs commenting on blogs commenting on the reporting of journalists seems kinda pointlless to me, at least going round-and-round on an inside loop. Some blogs -- like this one -- are great: they offer critical insights and gather lots of info and once in a while, some original reporting; some are merely bitchy and/or gossipy. They gotta right to exist, of course, but do they deserve to be covered by NY Mag? Seems to me, one advantage of MSM is resources to get reporters to, well, go out and report. Sorry about Mac, but iif the 'Drama' blog is being killed, I can't see any great loss to the field of theater criticism or reporting.
