Podcast Radio Plays

The Coyote Company is experimenting with reviving the Radio Play, via Podcasts. Jeremy Dobrish has written one for them--more of a mini-series, actually: Deception.

May be worth a listen, just to see (or hear) the possibilities of the form.

Have any playwrights out there considered using the Podcast form to showcase their work? Works for bands on MySpace, right? Why not get some good actors together for a reading, record it, and post it on your site!

actually my theatre company, elsewhere, has a project in the works to commission, produce, record and distribute original radio plays. We're waiting to hear back about some grants and will probably start fundraising for it in the fall. I've been waiting to make an official announcement about it but ah well...

Serendipity Theater Company in Chicago does this with their 2nd Story Podcast, and the NeoFuturists have a podcast showcasing their new weekly plays that they add to their rotation of Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind.

In addition, there are a number of theaters podcasting about their processes. We do one at New Leaf Theatre, and I try to review most of the new Chicago Theater podcasts as they're launched.

It's a genre of marketing that I love. All of these are posted on iTunes, and worth a listen.
