-A Middle School Principal in the Bronx, responding to the imminent teacher layoffs in the NYC Public School System. NY Daily News says that the number of arts teachers has already been reduced system wide in recent years.
So for those of you counting on that dayjob....

Easy. Apart from simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division no math is needed for the overwhelming majority. Emotional intelligence, aesthetic sensitivity and expressive capability? Always in short supply. Cut the math teacher.
@George Hunka: Initially surprised to read you so narrowly misjudging the tone of my comments (inspirational not bureaucratic in intent), I then realized, ah, a dramatist's reflex oppositional response. I know very well where the devil is, however the angels too need a voice. Hope others bridge the chasm.

And once the SATs have sections for "emotional intelligence," "aesthetic sensitivity" and "expressive capability," we'll be able to do just that.
