Vegas Undperforms Again

First Avenue Q, now Hairspray shuts down "prematurely" in Vegas.

Why do two shows that do fine with tourists in here fail to generate buzz with tourists there?

Just different types of tourists? Or are Broadway shows appreciated only as part of a "New York experience"? Or just these Broadway shows. Or just Broadway shows presuming "tolerant" positions on gays and race...

Or has the vision of selling Broadway style theatre in Vegas just turned out to be a doomed idea? We'll see with the 90-minute Phantom soon...

Mamma Mia is a big hit. As much as it sickens me to write this, Hairspray and Avenue Q were simply too highbrow to work in Vegas.
