What's the Matter with Seattle?

The Seattle-based web service, Crosscut, offers a local theatre artist's take on a gathering storm over the once blossoming nonprofit theatre scene there.

Their tag sets it up perfectly: "With the demise of Tacoma Actors Guild, the Seattle area has lost eight small theater companies in the past few years. A veteran of the theater scene explores the causes and cures for this unfortunate local custom." Read on.

Yeah, but what the article doesn't say is that for every midsize theatre that closes, there are five fringe groups that are created.
And that's been really exciting.
Nothing is dying. Things are just changing.
